Frequently Asked Questions
1) What type of activities do Meet in Athens members meet for?
Our members have met for a whole range of activities including coffees, drinks,
dinners, cinema visits, clubbing, book clubs, sports, days at the beach and trips out
of the city. In addition to there being fixed events each month, members are
encouraged to suggest activities to the rest of the group so we are only limited by
our imagination!
2) How often does the group meet?
There is usually a minimum of one fixed event each month. But members are also
encouraged to suggest activities to the rest of the group at any time.
3) Can anyone join Meet in Athens?
The group is primarily intended for expatriot foreigners in Athens and was created
to help them find each other easily whenever they want to take time out of their
Greek experience. Meet in Athens is one of very few groups in Athens, and perhaps
even the only group in the city that has a truly expat identity, and many new
members express their appreciation when they come across it. Members are of
course welcome to bring along their Greek girlfriends, boyfriends, husbands, wives
and friends to our events.
4) Does it cost anything to join the group?
No, joining Meet in Athens is free. However, If you are happy to have found Meet in
Athens or are already enjoying being a member, please consider supporting the
group by making a small donation here to help cover the cost of running the web
site.
5) What sort of person is a "typical" Meet in Athens member?
The is no such thing, thankfully! Meet in Athens has a very broad age-range and
many nationalities.
6) When is the next Meet in Athens event in Glyfada / Maroussi / central
Athens i.e. near where I live?
The majority of fixed Meet in Athens events are likely to be organised in the central
areas of Athens, in order to ensure that nobody has to travel right across the city in
order to attend. However, members can also suggest their own activities to the
group at any time and in any area of Athens that suits them. If there has not been a
group meeting near you in a while or an activity that you would like to take part in,
simply suggest one to the group.
7) Do you have any tips for suggesting a meeting to the group?
The most successful meetings are those that are suggested a few days in advance
with a specific date, time and meeting place. This way, all other members need to
do is say that they are coming and turn up. However, if you just have an idea for a
group meeting and you would like to discuss it with a few other members before
suggesting it to the group, you can do so in the group's online discussion forum.
8) It sounds difficult for members to organise a meeting, particularly if they
are new to Athens, is it?
No, not at all. The most that you will probably ever have to do to "organise" a
meeting is reserve a table in a restaurant - all that requires is one phone call. Many
activities do not even need that. If you want to meet people, but do not yet have
any ideas about where to go for a coffee or dinner, for example, simply suggest that
people meet at a well-known spot in the city, like outside one of the central metro
stations and you can decide together where to go.
9) What should I do if my question is not answered here?
